New features in Oracle Application Express, release 4.0 include:
Websheets
Websheets enable any user to quickly build and deploy Web-based data entry and reporting applications. With Websheets, the creation of tables, triggers, and sequences is handled automatically. Websheets offer an easy, declarative approach to report and form layout as well as the creation list of values and validations. See "Understanding the Difference Between a Websheet and a Database Application".
Team Development
Team Development is a built-in project management tool that enables you to manage the software development process by tracking new features, miscellaneous to do tasks, bugs, and milestones. Users can also provide real-time feedback which then can be categorized into features, general tasks, or bugs. See "Managing the Development Process".
Chart Enhancements
Release 4.0 includes the integration of AnyChart 5.1 resulting in improved performance, decreased rendering time, and decreased update time. In addition to added support for maps and Gantt charts, this release now features scrolling support, interactive labels, markers in legends, multiple data markers, and content menu localization. REST Web Services
REST Web services utilize a simpler architecture than SOAP Web services. Parameters are passed to a REST Web service as part of the URL and VML document is returned. See "Implementing Web Services".
Improved Application Builder
Application Builder features a new look and feel. User interface enhancements include improved navigation, redesigned Administration screens, extensive use of interactive reports, and an integrated application search capabilities. Enhanced Interactive Reports
Interactive reports now support icon and detail views, calendar views, inline edit, compound filter expressions, email notification, and a new group by functionality. Additionally, each report features enhanced Save options, can be downloaded to searchable HTML, and offers more granular printing capabilities. See "Customizing Interactive Reports".
Dynamic Actions
Dynamic action provide developers with a way to define client-side behavior declaratively without the need of JavaScript. Using a simple wizard, developers can select a page item, a condition, enter a value, and select an action (for example, Show, Hide, Enable, Show Item Row). See "Implementing Dynamic Actions".
Plug-ins
Plug-ins enable developers to enhance the existing built-in functionality by writing PL/SQL components for item types, regions, and processes. See "Implementing Plug-ins".
Oracle Application Express Listener
Release 4.0 includes a new HTTP Web server. This Web server is Java-based. The Oracle Application Express Listener features file system caching, support for FOP transformations to PDF, offers improved file upload capability, and is certified against Web Logic, Tomcat, and OC4J with Oracle WebLogic Server, OC4J, and Oracle Glassfish Server. Application Timestamp Format and Timestamp TZ format
Release 4.0 includes the ability for a developer to set the time zone for a user during an Application Express session as well as the ability to set the time zone automatically from the client browser. See "Configuring Globalization Attributes".
Tree Enhancements
Release 4.0 includes the support for a new tree component using jsTree, a JavaScript based, cross browser tree component that features theme support, optional keyboard navigation and optional state saving. See "Creating Trees".
Theme Enhancements
Oracle Application Express ships with 20 Themes. Twelve of these themes have been updated to a new look. These themes offer modern style that utilizes a DIV based page structure and run in "standards mode", as defined by the DOCTYPE in each page template.
